Texas Governor Rick Perry has thrown his hat into the 2012 Presidential bid and for those of us that are hoping for legalized online gambling in the US electing him as our next President would be detrimental to the possibility. Right now the online gambling industry is making headway in the US towards legalization and regulation of the industry after many years of lobbying and fighting for the rights of US citizens to gamble from their homes if they so chose. Many new supporters in the political world have finally started jumping on board and showing their support for the legalization of online poker and eventually online casinos. Big names and big casino operators which in the past were against the idea of having the online gambling industry legalized in the United States have turned the page and have begun to show their support, but one of the industry’s biggest opponents is Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Rick Perry has a history in Texas against legalizing online gaming, and every step of the way he has squashed any bill that was put in front of him for support. In 2009, the Texas Legislature considered passing three separate bills to expand the gaming industry, which included, legalized poker, legalized casinos and legalized slot machines at horse tracks. However, Governor Perry opposed each one and all three were put in the online gambling burial ground. In 2010, Texas was $18 billion in debit and once again the state legislature approached the Governor with the idea of expanding online gambling according to the Texas news paper “Dallas Morning News”, but once again, Governor Perry rejected the proposals and stated at a public appearance that “the Texas Legislature may find that a gambling bill should be something of interest, but I highly recommend that they don’t send it to my desk”!
Even though over 45% of Texas support legalizing online gambling and expanding gambling in their home state, Governor Perry insist that he has always and will always be against expanding any type of gambling in Texas. But now here is the kicker.
It seems that Rick Perry is an absolute phony, why? According to campaign, documents Rick Perry has been the recipient of campaign donations from 2007 to 2008 totaling over $790 thousand dollars from guess where? Yes, from gambling entities including horse and dog racing, Indian tribal casinos and Texan casinos! This total makes Governor Perry the number two recipient in Texas for donations from the gambling industry! So Governor Perry disdains gambling and has no interest in expanding the industry in his state to help the economy and its citizens with new revenue and new jobs, but he will pocket some cash from donations from the industry. When election time comes, and you’re an online gambling advocate and supporter, remember this news article before casting your ballots!

\x3Cp\x3EA request for local authorities to crack down on illegal gambling from Governor Nathan Deal Thursday led to the immediate closure of Covington Business Center, located in the Covington Corners shopping center.\x3C/p\x3E\x0D\x0A\x3Cp\x3EAccording to Deal\x27s speech, between 50 and 100 active gambling sites have set up shop in Georgia and \x22laying the groundwork for the move by challenging local prosecutors in each district with a flawed interpretation of state law.\x22\x3C/p\x3E\x0D\x0A\x3Cp\x3EDistrict Attorney Layla Zon said that before the internet caf\x26eacute\x3B sites even opened, owner\x27s defense attorneys were contacting prosecutors, telling them the cafes were legal and that the \x22sweepstakes\x22 programs owners used were tantamount to the Monopoly game annually played at McDonald\x27s.\x3C/p\x3E\x0D\x0A\x3Cp\x3EThe way the cafes \x2D or in this case, business center \x2D operated, was that customers would pay for internet time or phone cards and use those to bet points on computers loaded with games like poker or slots. Winners would be awarded prizes, such as canned coffee or car wax.\x3C/p\x3E\x0D\x0A\x3Cp\x3E\x22Today, we are coming together to send a clear message to the illegal gaming industry, and to concerned communities throughout Georgia: Our state law prohibits gambling,\x22 said Deal. \x22The code is black and white on this issue. Though some have sought to further their own interests by spreading the impression that the thwarting of these laws would be winked at, we are here to reassure Georgians that we will prosecute anyone skirting the law in this area,\x22 said Deal in his speech.\x3C/p\x3E\x0D\x0A\x3Cp\x3EImmediately following Deal\x27s speech, Zon and Captain Phillip Bradford with the Covington/Newton County Special Investigations Unit went to Covington Business Center and shut them down.\x3C/p\x3E\x0D\x0A\x3Cp\x3EZon said that when they spoke with employee inside the business and with the owner by phone, telling them their business was illegal, they put up no fight and locked the doors. The patrons inside the store claimed ignorance but were told that in the future, they could also be charged with gambling.\x3C/p\x3E\x0D\x0A\x3Cp\x3ECovington Business Center was the only establishment of this sort in Newton County that authorities and prosecutors are aware of, however one did just open in Monroe, which is part of the Alcovy Judicial Circuit over which Zon reigns.\x3C/p\x3E

Ardent Leisure Group Ltd has reported an 89.8 per cent increase in full year profits, showing that even in tough financial times, people still like to have fun.
The company, which operates popular theme parks, including Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, as well as marinas, health clubs and family entertainment centres, said its net profit was $36.143 million, up from $19.06 million last year.
Revenue from ordinary activities was up 7.3 per cent to $375.9 million, from $350.4 million for the previous corresponding period.
Notebook maker MSI beefs up its slim line of X-series notebooks Wednesday claiming new X460 and X460DX systems are the lightest models available on the market to pack Intels Core i7 quad core processors. Weighing in at 4.3 pounds, with 14-inch displays, 1-inch thick, systems start at $800.
You probably missed it, but last month MSI trumpeted the release of these notebooks leading up to Wednesdays release with slightly different specs than what we are seeing with actual shipping models.
For one thing, looking at the new specs and press release, support for a second internal hard drive–even a SSD one–is no longer available. (We thought it was unusual for those to be options when we first got a peek at these ultrathins.)
Great Specs, Good Prices
Still, both laptops are attractive for their 1-inch thinness, 4.3 pound weight, and an impressive estimated 8 hours of battery life.
The X460 has the higher-end specs, with Intel’s Core i7 processor and 750GB (7200rpm) HDD. As a result, it has the higher MSRP of $1200.
If you want a more affordable version of this slim laptop, the X460DX starts at $800. With a choice of either Core i5 or Core i3 processors, the X460DX also has an advantage for entertainment and gaming buffs: an Nvidia GeForce GT540M dedicated graphics card.
Although MSI has dropped the X460′s “lightest laptop packing Intel Core i7 processor” claim to fame and you won’t find an unusual second internal drive in these laptops, the X460 and X460DX are more attractive options for the growing set of slim and sleek laptops. Both are available for order from Amazon and Newegg.

HOPES of saving two leisure centres earmarked for closure have been raised after a town council and a parish council backed new proposals.
Sherburn Village Parish Council said it was minded to support Spectrum Leisure and Management’s (Slam) bid for Sherburn Leisure Centre with £45,000 over three years.
Meanwhile, Ferryhill Town Council is backing Ferryhill Community Partnership’s plans for the town’s leisure centre, managed by Slam, with £120,000 over four years.
It is hoped both bids, expected to be submitted to Durham County Council today, will see nearly all existing staff and services retained.
However, both the town and parish councils are considering options that would discharge costly Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (Tupe) legal obligations.
Independent county councillor for Sherburn, Carol Woods, said last night: “There is no doubt the parish council, and everybody who attended the meeting, would prefer to go ahead with a Tupe
compliant bid where we can offer the same services and keep the staff on.”
Councillor Woods said the parish council was looking for alternative revenue and would only raise the precept if absolutely necessary, subject to a referendum. Ferryhill Town Council pledged its
support, on Wednesday, during a meeting called by the community partnership, frustrated by the town council’s apparent inaction.
The town council is hopeful that neighbouring town and parish councils will share the financial burden and is considering an alternative bid to work directly with Slam.
However, user groups have identified revenue streams, seemingly omitted from county council documentation, which could reduce and even negate the town council’s input.
Independent county councillor for Ferryhill and chairman of the community partnership, Dave Farry, is also advancing a bid to turn the leisure centre into a community and arts centre.
Speaking at Wednesday’s meeting, Ian Hirst, chief executive of Slam, said he was confident of submitting an acceptable bid, but welcomed multiple bids, for fear of losing the facility.
Mr Hirst said: “The difference this time is communication.
We have seen bids that have been accepted by the county council and we now know what they are looking for.”
If the plans are accepted ,only Glenholme Leisure Centre, in Crook, would close on October 1, after the county council initially proposed closing six leisure
centres.
